Former city golf champion and senior men’s golf champion Bernard Killoran died last month. He was 87.
Killoran, a longtime member of the Northern New Mexico Senior Men’s Golf Association, which was founded by notable local athlete Lou Pierotti, lost his battle with cancer Feb. 5. During his years playing on the senior men’s tour, Killoran won four titles, which is still a tour record. The tour was founded in 1961.
Killoran won the tour championship in 1972, 1985, 1986 and 1990. He and his son, Rick, also won 13 Los Alamos City Championships.
Pierotti, a longtime friend of Killoran, said he was a joy to play with and was quick to offer advice to anyone who needed it.
Killoran, who won a grand total of 50 amateur golf tournaments and scored 17 aces in all, was a retiree from Los Alamos National Laboratory.
