Curt and Jason Norman, two top local golfers, took top honors at the Ransom Reynolds Cup last weekend.

The team of brothers cruised to a big victory at the tournament, played at the Twin Warriors Golf Course at Santa Ana Pueblo, topping their nearest competitors by five shots in the two-day event.

What had been a pretty solid golf month of July for the two Norman brothers spilled over at least a little bit into August.

The two met head-to-head just a week earlier at the Los Alamos City Championship, where Jason came back from a day-one deficit against Curt to grab his second-straight City title. That tournament was played at Los Alamos Golf Course.

The Reynolds Cup, however, was a welcome change.

“It’s not often Jason and I get to play on the same team together,” Curt said.

At the Reynolds Cup, Jason and Curt shot a 2-under par 70 in alternate-shot format to take the day-one edge Friday. That score gave them a 5-shot lead heading into Saturday’s second round.

On day two, they combined for a 1-under 71 playing best-ball. To finish of Saturday’s round, Jason chipped in for an eagle.

“We played really well the first day,” Curt said. “We played OK the second day…We covered each other’s shots really well on the second day.”

Picking up extraneous slack is important at Twin Warriors, because getting too far off the fairways of the 7,284-yard course can make things dicey in a hurry.

Early in July, the Normans took part in the Atomic City Invitational at LAGC. At the ACI — where the two received invitations to play at the Reynolds Cup — Curt advanced to the match-play semifinals.
