A pair of Los Alamos’ District 2-4A rivals won the Los Alamos Spring Invitational golf tournament Monday.
Monday’s tournament, the only home appearance by Los Alamos’ Hilltoppers during the spring 2011 regular season, was held at Los Alamos Golf Course. The tournament consisted of nine boys teams and four girls teams.
The Bernalillo Spartans held off a crowded field at the top of the boys competition, earning a team score of 346. In all, six teams, including Los Alamos, were within 13 shots of the team title. Bosque, which finished as the team runner-up, was just one shot behind Bernalillo while third-place finisher Santa Fe was just three shots back of the team lead.
In the girls competition, Santa Fe topped Las Vegas Robertson by five shots to take that team title. Los Alamos was 18 strokes off the pace, finishing third.
Individually, Bosque’s Emily Ellis had the best round of the day, carding an 87, nipping Santa Fe’s Allie Fullerton by two shots. Tucumcari’s Gabe Montoya had a 74 to finish with the low round in the boys tournament.
Scores Monday were nothing to write home about. Only three boys broke 80 while just two girls broke 90. Only one team, Robertson’s girls, was able to capture a state tournament qualifying leg.
