Getting three distance runners into the state Class AAAA meet Saturday might not have been all that surprising, but getting a young hurdler in may have been.Amanda Trujillo, running the 300 meter hurdles for the first time in a varsity event, finished with a time of 48.66 to win her heat and make the cut at Saturday’s Albuquerque Public Schools meet.Trujillo, a junior, snuck under the AAAA qualifying mark of 48.80, was one of four Los Alamos Hilltoppers to pick up a state time at the meet, held at Milne Stadium.Los Alamos finished third in team competition Saturday, grabbing 74.5 points. Albuquerque Academy won Saturday’s team title with 83.5 points and Cibola was second with 80.“They just got out there and competed,” Hilltopper head coach Paul Anderson said. “We gave everybody a chance do something (Saturday).”The team title came down to the last couple of events, although Los Alamos didn’t go in worrying a great deal about topping the team standings. To start the day, Margaret Wood and Jessica Mietz finished second and third in the 3200 meters, both earning trips to the state meet. Wood finished with a time of 12:08.74 and Mietz ran a 12:16.44, both well beneath state qualifying. Also on Saturday, Holly Walker ran a 5:33.00 in the 1600, grabbing her second mark of the season.
