Like its last trip to the Albuquerque metro area for a game against a tough Class 5A squad, the Los Alamos Hilltopper girls soccer team lost the contest 5-1.
Tuesday, the Hilltoppers took on the La Cueva Bears, the No. 4 squad in Class 5A according to the most recent NMSoccer.com coaches’ poll.
Los Alamos, which entered Tuesday’s game having lost two of three contests this weekend at Albuquerque Academy’s Invitational tournament, took another big loss to a tough big school. It fell by the same score Sept. 2 on the road at Rio Rancho.
Los Alamos (3-5) will get its second crack at Rio Rancho today at Sullivan Field. The two teams will meet for the second game of their home-and-home series during the 2010 season. It will also be just the second home appearance of 2010 for Los Alamos, which has been on the road since its season-opening victory against Belen Aug. 24.
This week could prove to be the toughest of the year for the Hilltoppers, who will play a third game against their arch-rival Albuquerque Academy.
Academy, the top-ranked team in Class AAAA, has also beaten Los Alamos in each of the last two state championship games.
