The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls soccer team clinched another District 2AAAA title Tuesday with a shutout victory over the Santa Fe Demons.
Los Alamos jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one half of play Tuesday in Santa Fe and coasted to a 4-0 victory at Ivan Head Stadium. The win gave Los Alamos its sixth straight District 2AAAA title.
It has not lost a district contest since that time.
“We won the district and that guarantees us a spot in state,” Hilltopper head coach Jiri Kubicek said. “We need to finish the rest of the season on a high note.”
The Hilltoppers will have ample opportunity to do just that. Following their district finale against Capital next week, the Hilltoppers still have nondistrict dates with Class AAA St. Michael’s and, more importantly, Class AAAA Aztec.
The Aztec game could have impact on the seeding for the 2010 state playoffs. Los Alamos still has a decent shot at grabbing a top-four seeding, which would give it a bye into the quarterfinals, but unlike most years, that top-four seed is hardly a sure thing.
