So far, so good.
The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls soccer team didn’t waste much time in getting into the win column, knocking off three Class AAAA teams from District 1 to take the Farmington Invitational team title.
Los Alamos thumped Piedra Vista in its tournament opener Friday, 3-0, then shut out the Aztec Tigers 1-0 in a nootime game Saturday. In the championship game against the host Farmington Scorpions, the Hilltoppers scored the only goal of the second half to win 2-1 and take the tournament title.
Beating three AAAA teams playing in their corner of the state is a good way to get the season off on the right foot.
“It was great,” Hilltopper head coach Jiri Kubicek said. “I’m glad we came out here and did this. Now we have an idea for the future if we play them what we’re looking at.”
Saturday was a rough day for the Hilltoppers (3-0), who had to pick up their two wins the hard way.
Los Alamos and Aztec played on the artificial turf of Hutchinson Stadium in 100-degree temperatures. Only a few short hours later, Los Alamos had to bounce back and take on Farmington.
Senior forward Maneesha Chitanvis scored four goals for the Hilltoppers in the three games. For her scoring efforts, Chitanvis was named the Player of the Tournament.
