The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls basketball team will try to lock up its third straight District 2AAAA tournament title tonight.Los Alamos, which finished a spotless 8-0 in District 2AAAA play, will host tonight’s 2AAAA tournament championship game when it hosts Española Valley.Española Valley tripped up second-seed Taos Thursday, winning 48-39 at Taos to qualify for tonight’s 2AAAA title game. It was the second straight victory by Española Valley’s Sundevils over Taos, including a 46-38 win in its regular season finale Feb. 22.Los Alamos’ eight wins over 2AAAA competition includes a pair of wins over Española Valley. The Sundevils gave the Hilltoppers one of their closest calls in district play this season, a 55-51 decision in Española Jan. 25. The ’Toppers beat the Sundevils handily in their most recent meeting, however, a 47-26 win at Griffith Gymnasium Feb. 13.Going into tonight’s game, Los Alamos (16-9 overall) has held its last three opponents to under 30 points.The Hilltoppers clinched the regular season district title with their second win over the Sundevils.Los Alamos, by virtue of its regular season district title, has already assured itself of a spot in the Class AAAA playoffs. Española Valley clinched its spot with Thursday's win.Taylor Ealey had 17 points against the Sundevils in their most recent meeting, while Bryanna Richins had a career-best 25 points in the game at Española Valley.Megan Martinez had 13 points for the Sundevils (8-13 overall, 6-3 in 2AAAA) in the Feb. 13 game.Tickets for tonight’s game will go on sale at 6 p.m. at the Griffith Gymnasium box office. No advance tickets will be sold.Price for admission is $5 per person. Only New Mexico Activities Association passes will be accepted. Los Alamos High School athletics passes and staff IDs will not be honored.
