The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls basketball team dropped its first round contest at the Goddard Holiday Classic Monday afternoon.
The Hilltoppers took on Class AAA Tohatchi in the opening round of the tournament, being played in Roswell. Tohatchi (3-3) outran Los Alamos in the first half and held on in the second half to take a 53-45 victory.
No other information on Monday’s game was available as of press time Tuesday.
It was the second straight loss and the third in four outings for the Hilltoppers (4-6), who tumble into the loser’s bracket of the tournament. They were scheduled to play at 3 p.m. today against either Goddard or Santa Teresa — results of their opening round game weren’t reported.
Also at the tournament, the Roswell Coyotes crushed the Capital Jaguars 64-24. The Jaguars — who play in District 2AAAA along with Los Alamos — and the Hilltoppers would meet if they both win or both lose today.
On the other side of the bracket, Class AAAAA Carlsbad outlasted Class AAA Robertson 49-42 to advance. Carlsbad (7-3) and Roswell (6-3) meet in the winner’s bracket today, while Robertson (3-4) will face Capital.
The Goddard Holiday Classic continues through Wednesday.
