Cross country: LA teams compete in regional meet Friday night

By The Staff

The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls cross country team finished third in the Milesplit Sweepstakes race at the Desert Twilight Festival, while the Hilltopper boys were fourth in the Sole Sports Boys Sweepstakes.
The Desert Twilight Festival, a region-wide cross country meet, was Friday night in Phoenix, Ariz. The event, which included some of the top racers in the southwest, was held on the same course that will be used for the Nike Cross National regional qualifying meet following the prep regular season.
The Hilltopper girls finished with 148 points to take the third-place finish. They were paced by Jennifer Mooday, who cracked the top 10 on the 3.1-mile course with her time of 18:37.
The race is run at night on a lit course and was a largely flat course throughout.
For the Hilltopper boys, Sean Reardon finished in 19th place as Los Alamos finished with 252 total points in their race. Reardon, Los Alamos’ top finisher a week earlier against Albuquerque Academy, posted a time of 16:01.
Friday’s race was the lone appearance by the Hilltoppers outside of the state for the 2011 regular season.
