As the summer season comes to a close at Pajarito Mountain Ski Area, questions about how this year’s winter season will shape up are beginning to form. With the success of last year’s ski season, the answers to these questions look optimistic.

In fact, the winter season is kicking off with a celebration. The Annual Ullrfest will be held on Saturday and the community is invited to do a little snow dance. Ullr is the Norse - Viking god of skiing. Ullr may be spotted at the fest or other likenesses of the winter god during the costume contest with great prizes. Of course Saturday will offer the last lift serving bikers and hikers at Pajarito Mountain so come on out before the snow flies. The community is encouraged to take advantage of the free Atomic City Bus to Ullrfest, which will leave Sullivan field on the hour starting at 9 a.m.

The festival will feature live music by the Albuquerque band, The Hop Hedz, also known as The Deteriorators from noon-4 p.m.

The band plays a mixture of R&B, blues, progressive blues, rock and other music genres,

Beer tasting with the Santa Fe Brewing and 2nd Street Brewery will be held from noon-5 p.m.

There is a $5 charge for beer tasting. The admission fee will include a new glass and a pint of the entrants’ choice.

Lifts will serve hikers and bikers from 9 a.m. -3 p.m. The fee is for $10 hiking, and $20 for biking.

The cafe will be open all day and LA Green will sell rain barrels and exchange old light bulbs for energy-efficient ones.

Additionally, Pajarito Mountain season passes will be available for purchase. The winter pass includes three free days at Monarch, Angel Fire and Sipapu ski areas.
