The first week of May is commonly a time to think about Mother’s Day, Nurse’s Day and Teacher and Staff Appreciation week.
The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at Chamisa Elementary School is helping people get ahead of the game by offering a shopping extravaganza in conjunction with the Dog Jog at Chamisa on Saturday.
The annual spring arts and crafts fair will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the school.
“The arts and crafts fair draws vendors from all over northern New Mexico including the surrounding pueblos,” Catherine Cleland, PTO vice president, said. “Our local craftspeople are creative and innovative and have a lot of unique art, jewelry, household items, photography, clothing, etc that is available for viewing and, of course purchasing.”
The creative crew looked into ways to raise funds to aide teachers and students in their life long learning at Chamisa.
The PTO generally assists with funds for field trips, art supplies, class awards, and innovative and interactive learning materials, such as math dice.
“We haven’t achieved the funding level we did last year, using the door to door sales, but we are moving closer,” Cleland said.
The vendors will offer a variety of items including decorative silverware and serving pieces by Donna Osborn, clothing concepts by Andrea Lynch, AVON, Scentsy wickless candles, jewelry, engravings by Mountain Engraving and even photography by PTO President Diana McPherson.
Smaller businesses will also have the opportunity to support the school through an information table.
A variety of handouts will be available illustrating available services and educating residents about organizations at the resource table.
Anyone interested in purchasing a $5 space at the resource table or renting booth space can reach the PTO representatives by calling 672-9408 or 672-9463.
