Kevin Gao, a sophomore at Los Alamos High School, has been named the Dansfelsor Scholarship Recipient for this year’s Professional Music Teachers Conference. A certificate and check for $500 was presented to Gao at the conference concert on Nov. 6 at the Simms Center for the Performing Arts at Albuquerque Academy. Gao had to share his talent, and write of his successes and devotion to the piano in order to win this award. He was also a competitor in the Music Teachers National Association competition on Nov. 5 at the conference and performed a 25-minute program from memory before a jury. The winner of this competition represents New Mexico in a six State Divisional Competition that will be held in California in January.
