A fund has been set up to help defray the costs of the funeral for Los Alamos Police Corporal Alfred Roybal Jr. at Los Alamos National Bank, according to LAPD Sgt. Jeremy Duran.
Donations can be made to the Corporal Alfred Roybal Memorial Fund, Duran said. There is no account number, Duran said.
The funeral for Roybal, Jr., 36, is scheduled for Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada. Burial will follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Santa Cruz.
Public visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Northern New Mexico Community College with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.
Roybal is survived by his wife, Katya; parents, Alfred and Beatrice; children, Kaitlyn, Mateo, Nicolas and John.
Roybal, who grew up in the Espanola area and resided in Rio Rancho, died during a camping trip in Angel Fire last Friday. A family friend, who wished not to be identified, said he died either of a heart attack or in his sleep.
