Fun times at the VFW

-A A +A
By Kirsten Laskey

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8874 takes its service to several levels. The post’s work appears in Los Alamos but is also visible around the state and nation.

To ensure its services do not fade away, the local VFW is hosting a “Funday Fundraiser” from noon-4 p.m. Saturday at the post home.

A full agenda is planned for the event. The Rio Grand Mud Bank will donate their time and talent to provide live music while Josephine Boyer of Son-Shine Art will have a face-painting booth. She, too, will be giving support to the VFW by donating half of her profits to the organization.

Baskin Robbins will serve ice cream and a few VFW members will volunteer to get creamed with a pie during a pie-throwing contest.

Additionally, a raffle will be held, featuring a Wagner Power Spray Painter, donated by Lowe’s of Espaola; gift certificates, given by local restaurants; and haircuts, donated by Los Alamos barbers.

A horseshoe tournament and men’s fashion relay will also be held.

Tickets for the different events are $1 each. The number of tickets needed for each activity varies.

The support given during this event will provide more than just a day of fun; it will help support programs on a local, state and national level.
