Los Alamos School of Gymnastics wrapped up its Junior Olympic boys competitive season two weeks ago with the New Mexico Junior Olympic State Championships.
Daniel Fryer was Los Alamos’ only representative at the state meet, but he came through in a big way, winning the senior men’s Level 5 Junior Olympic division, taking gold with an all-around score of 58.85.
Fryer’s score qualified him to the Region 9 championships in Utah coming up in April.
Fryer won the state meet handily, finishing 1.55 points ahead of the second place finisher in his division.
In the meet, Fryer took gold in four of the six men’s events, floor, vault, parallel bars and high bar, while receiving bronze medals in the other two events.
Fryer netted scored over 10.00 in five events by completing the bonus moves that can be added to the routines in men’s gymnastics. He scored a 10.30 in parallel bars, a 10.15 on both high bar and rings, a 10.05 on the floor exercise and a 10.00 on the vault.
He scored an 8.20 after a fall on pommel horse.
The LASG boys team is coached by former LASG competitor Nathan Reass, who was with the team between 1998-2002.
