This Sunday marks the 80th anniversary of the Academy Awards. To kick off Hollywood’s annual event, The Los Alamos Community Winds will bring a little bit of “Tinseltown” to the stage this weekend with a concert of music from television and motion pictures titled “Friday Night at the Movies.”Friday’s concert marks the fourth in a series of biennial concerts of music from film and television that The Los Alamos Community Winds have produced. As always, director Ted Vives has crafted authentic wind transcriptions of the actual orchestral scores for this performance. Music performed will include excerpts from films made during 1931-1985 – a period of 54 years of cinema – and will feature music from “The Empire Strikes Back” (1980), “Victor/Victoria” (1982), “Silverado” (1985) and “E.T. – The Extra Terrestrial” (1982).“These concerts are always a joy to perform,” Vives said. “They do take a lot of preparation and the music is quite difficult, but very fulfilling for a group of musicians who want to stretch their musical horizons.”Orchestral soundtracks from movies are some of the most difficult music even for professionals to perform.
