Brianna Freyer led the way for the Los Alamos School of Gymnastics’ Atomic Tumblers at the Cottonwood Invitational in Rio Rancho Oct. 20-21.
More than 130 athletes, representing six teams took part.
The Atomic Tumblers brought home 20 gold medals, 21 silver, and 26 bronze, led by Fryer.
Freyer dominated the Bronze Level in the USA Gymnastics Xcel program, earning four gold medals in each of the four events, bars (9.50), beam (9.30), floor (9.05), and vault (8.80). She also earned a fifth gold for her top all-around score of 36.65.
The Xcel program is an alternative to the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympics program, allowing gymnasts the opportunity to perform routines choreographed to fit each individual.
For the Atomic Tumblers, six gymnasts competed in the Xcel Program, while 15 are in the Junior Olympic Program. Fryer and Anna Clark, competed in both.
Clark stood strong as the all-around champion in the Silver Level Xcel, with an all-around score of 35.15. She earned a gold on beam (9.25), silver on bars (8.80) and floor (9.00), and a bronze on vault (8.10).
Also for the Atomic Tumblers, Suyanna Ferreira took third in the all-around Silver Level Xcel with a score of 34.35, earning a gold on bars (9.00).
