ALBUQUERQUE — Govs. Bill Richardson, Bruce King, Toney Anaya and Jerry Apodaca made history Tuesday when they got together for a Democratic Party unity event.
“Democrats are coming together like never before,” said New Mexico Democratic Party Chairman Brian Colon. “This is the first time all four governors are together and it’s because they all agree it’s time for Democrats to come together. They represent nearly three decades of New Mexico governors and represent almost 30 percent of all of our governors.”
This is the cycle when all legislative seats are up again and Colon said the Party has “fantastic candidates at every level.”
“We’ve received more than 350 RSVPs and that doesn’t include our 50 hosts,” he said. “The Democratic Party is fired up like never before and ready to light the state on fire.”
Each governor spoke following an invitation-only mixer held at the Sandia Resort and Casino. They each received a special plaque thanking them for their service to New Mexico.
Richardson thanked Democrats for supporting him in his presidential campaign and asked them to help persuade the Legislature that every New Mexican has the right to universal health care. He plans to call a special session for health care in August or September.
