Having a hard day at work? Wishing you didn’t have to fix dinner again? Then plan to join the House of Hope Women and enjoy a full pancake dinner from 5:30-7 p.m. Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the Parish Hall of Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church on Trinity Drive. Donations for this pancake dinner are $4 for children (10 and younger), $7 per adult and $18 per family. Tickets may be purchased at the church after each Sunday service, in the church office, or at the door the night of the dinner. Because of the new construction, anyone who needs assistance getting into the Parish Hall is invited to call the church office at 662-5107, and leave their name and planned time of arrival. The House of Hope Women is a group of women from many local churches who have committed their time and talents to building projects in Juarez, Mexico, and the proceeds from this dinner will support the purchase of the building materials for the October project. The name Shrove Tuesday was traditionally given to the day before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the 40 days of Lent. On this day in the Middle Ages the faithful were expected to attend confession with a priest for the purpose of being absolved or shriven in order to begin Lent in the right spiritual state. The Lenten Fast and Abstinence rules were quite strict and banned not only the consumption of meat but butter, cream and eggs.
