Ruben Martinez was among a trio of linebackers selected to the New Mexico High School Coaches Association Class AAAA All-State football team.Martinez was selected twice for the first team AAAA defensive unit, also being selected as the top punter in the state.Also selected to the AAAA first team defense from Los Alamos was safety Matt Zocco, one of five defensive backs selected for the 2007 season.The 2007 All-State team was selected by voting among the Class AAAA coaches from around the state.On Feb. 6, Martinez will sign his National Letter of Intent to play football for New Mexico State University next fall. Zocco led the Hilltopper defense in interceptions, helping to stabilize a young corps of defensive backs this season.Several more Hilltoppers were named to the All-AAAA second team Honorable Mention squads.Making the second team on offense were center Eric Carlson, Martinez — as a fullback — and wingback Raul Rodriguez.Honorable mentions from the squad included tackle Aaron Kilburn and safety Zach Mang.Los Alamos finished the season 9-2, second in District 2AAAA, and advanced to the state playoffs before falling to Moriarty in the first round.Class AAAA state champion Artesia led all teams with five selections to the first team. St. Pius' Greg Rivara was selected for three positions on the first team, tight end, defensive end and place-kicker.
