ALBUQUERQUE (AP) — New Mexico coach Mike Locksley says quarterback B.R. Holbrook will undergo exploratory surgery on his left knee.
Holbrook, who started the Lobos' first two games, sat out last weekend's 56-14 loss to Utah and will miss Saturday's game at UNLV.
His status beyond that is undetermined.
Holbrook was unable to practice last week after aggravating an injury sustained in high school.
Locksley says he's not ready to name a starter for the UNLV game, waiting to evaluate his quarterbacks after a week of practice. Brad Gruner started against Utah but left in the second quarter with a back injury. Freshman Tarean Austin played the second half.
