Flash flooding possible through the weekend

The National Weather Service issued the following weather statement early Friday morning...

THE THREAT FOR FLASH FLOODING WILL INCREASE ACROSS NORTHERN AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO THROUGH THE WEEKEND...

SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING HEAVY RAIN AND MINOR FLOODING WILL DEVELOP ACROSS NORTHERN AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO TODAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND. OVER THE WEEKEND... AN UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL CROSS NORTHERN NEW MEXICO WHILE A BACK DOOR COLD FRONT DROPS INTO THE NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS AND EASTERN PLAINS PROVIDING A FOCUS FOR MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN. THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR FLASH FLOODING ALONG AND EAST OF THE SANGRE DE CRISTO AND SANDIA MOUNTAINS TO NEW MEXICOS EASTERN BORDER SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING. THE THREAT AREA INCLUDES I-25 NORTH OF SANTA FE TO THE COLORADO BORDER AND I-40 EAST OF ALBUQUERQUE TO THE TEXAS BORDER.

LOCATIONS FAVORED FOR THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION COULD CHANGE AS WEATHER MODELS GET A BETTER HANDLE ON THE TRACK OF THE UPPER LOW AND SURFACE COLD FRONT.
