* A PORTION OF NORTH AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO... INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS... CENTRAL HIGHLANDS... EAST SLOPES SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS... ESTANCIA VALLEY... JEMEZ MOUNTAINS... NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS... NORTHWEST HIGHLANDS... SANDIA/MANZANO MOUNTAINS... SANTA FE METRO AREA... SOUTHERN SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS ABOVE 9500 FEET... SOUTHWEST MOUNTAINS... WEST CENTRAL HIGHLANDS... WEST CENTRAL MOUNTAINS AND WEST SLOPES SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS.

* THROUGH LATE TONIGHT

* ABUNDANT MOISTURE IN PLACE AND PASSING DISTURBANCES ALOFT WILL PRODUCE SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF HEAVY RAIN AND FLASH FLOODING. STORMS SHOULD BECOME MOST WIDESPREAD ACROSS THE WEST AND NORTHWEST MOUNTAINS THIS AFTERNOON... THEN THE FOCUS SHOULD SHIFT TO THE CENTRAL AND NORTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS AND ADJACENT HIGHLANDS DURING THE EVENING AND OVERNIGHT. SLOW STORM MOTIONS ARE EXPECTED WITH MOST CELLS DRIFTING TOWARD THE SOUTHEAST OR SOUTH.

* LOCATIONS WHERE THE GROUND IS ALREADY SATURATED FROM RECENT RAINFALL WILL BE FAVORED FOR FLASH FLOODING. OTHER VULNERABLE LOCATIONS WILL INCLUDE STEEP TERRAIN... URBAN AREAS AND BURN SCARS. KEEP A WATCHFUL EYE ON ARROYOS AND SMALL STREAMS... AND STAY OUT OF FLOODED LOW WATER CROSSINGS. MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS CLOSELY AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION IF A WARNING OR ADVISORY IS ISSUED.

* AT 513 PM MDT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THAT HEAVY RAIN WILL FALL ACROSS THE NORTHERN END OF THE LAS CONCHAS BURN SCAR WHICH INCLUDES SANTA CLARA CANYON EXTENDING EASTWARD TO ESPANOLA. EXPECT A QUICK BURST OF 0.75 TO 1.25 INCHES.

* STRONG FLOWS AND HIGH WATER LEVELS ARE EXPECTED IN ARROYOS... SMALL STREAMS AND OVER LOW WATER CROSSINGS. RAPID RUNOFF CAN ALSO BE EXPECTED IMMEDIATELY OVER AND DOWNSTREAM FROM WILDFIRE BURN SCARS.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY.
