THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR

* A PORTION OF NORTH AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO... INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS... JEMEZ MOUNTAINS... LOWER CHAMA RIVER VALLEY... NORTHWEST HIGHLANDS... SAN FRANCISCO RIVER VALLEY... SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS... SOUTHWEST MOUNTAINS... WEST CENTRAL HIGHLANDS AND WEST CENTRAL MOUNTAINS.

* THROUGH THIS EVENING

* HIGH ATMOSPHERIC MOISTURE CONTENT EXISTS OVER WESTERN NEW MEXICO TODAY. ADD TO THAT AN UNSEASONABLY STRONG UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM APPROACHING FROM THE EAST WHICH WILL ACT TO DESTABILIZE THE ATMOSPHERE. THE RESULT WILL BE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS INCREASING IN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THE POTENTIAL OF FOR LOCALIZED RAINFALL RATES UP TO 2 OR 3 INCHES PER HOUR WILL LEAD TO A SIGNIFICANT RISK OF FLASH FLOODING... ESPECIALLY OVER BURN SCAR AREAS.

* LOCALIZED FLASH FLOODING OF STREAMS... ARROYOS... DRY CREEK BEDS AND LOW WATER CROSSINGS WILL BE POSSIBLE FROM HEAVY RAINFALL. THE WHITEWATER BALDY... MILLER... THOMPSON RIDGE AND LAS CONCHAS BURN SCARS WILL BE ESPECIALLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO FLASH FLOODING.
