Nothing expresses compassion, empathy and comfort like a handmade item. Not only does one feel the warmth from the fabric but also from the care in each stitch sewn into a quilt or a pillowcase made by willing hands.
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, the Piecemakers Quilt Guild will provide these special gifts during the meeting at the United Church. Members of the guild will cut, piece and sew quilts and pillowcases. The pillowcases are being made to support the “1 million Pillowcase Challenge” sponsored by the American Patchwork and Quilting magazine. The quilts and pillowcases will be given to local charities at a later date.
Everyone is welcome to come, bring a friend, rotary cutter, ruler, cutting mat, sewing supplies and a sewing machine. Ther’s no need to bring fabric, there will be plenty to share. The unfinished quilt tops can be taken home to be worked on individually or by a cluster.
