Dear friends of the Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series,

Here we go with the last concert of the 2008 Summer Series.

Friday, we’ll be at Zia Credit Union with local blues-rockers Julie Stewart and the Motor Kings and I hope you can join us.

The Motor Kings are a five-piece band that plays mostly original music as well as the music of Etta James, The Allman Brothers, James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Robben Ford, Tina Turner and a few other classics and near classics.

The soulful and powerful Julie Stewart of Santa Fe fronts the group. She realized her calling to sing after listening to Janis Joplin, Etta James and Led Zeppelin. Julie can belt out a song! Rob Heineman of White Rock plays bass and is one of the State’s most in demand musicians.

Greg Woodfin is one great Hammond B3 organ player. Woodfin lives in Los Alamos and writes most of the group’s original music. Tom Briggs is the steady but powerful drummer. He’s shared the stage with Muddy Waters, Coco Taylor, John Mayall and many others. He was raised in Dayton, Ohio but has lived in Santa Fe for years.

The newest member is guitarist Tiho Dimitrov. Dimitrov came to the U.S. from Bulgaria in 1998 and has been living in Santa Fe for a few years.

His influences are the classic blues rockers, Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Guy and BB King.

Julie Stewart and the Motor Kings have toured all over the United States and have shared the stage with the Doobie Bros., The Black Crowes, Cheap Trick, Tab Benoit, Bad Co., Dave Brubeck, Savoy Brown and many other well-known acts.

The show will be a fitting finale. Read more and listen to the band at www.motorkings.com.

The good folks at Zia Credit Union have invited their “savings mascot,” Kirby Kangaroo to the event to hand out prizes and giveaways to the children. Kirby and the C.U. staff will also be handing out Hawaiian leis to the adults and there’ll be a contest for best Hawaiian shirt.

The show is at Zia Credit Union because it has been a sponsor of the series for 15 years. Its neighbors, Don Taylor’s Photography and Golden Gun Luxury Plating are also valued sponsors.

Sponsors! We wouldn’t have been producing these shows without the support of our many sponsors. Please see who they are at www.gordonsconcerts.com.

I thank them all and it would be great if you could stop into their businesses and offices and tell or e-mail them that you also appreciate their donations.

The 20th anniversary of the series will begin in May. If you have any comments, e-mail Russ@gordonsconcerts.com. If I schedule any extra concerts or have any news, I’ll let you know. I usually produce a concert for the town Halloween Party and Winter Fest. Hope you can catch the Julie Stewart and the Motor Kings show.
