Ed Ferdinand, age 78, from Los Alamos, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2008, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born on July 6, 1930, he is survived by his wife of 52 years Jo Ferdinand, sons Kevin from Katy, Texas, and Mike from Longmont, Colorado, and daughter Denise Harris from Stephenville, Texas.
Ed served in the Army and then attended the University of Illinois where he received a degree in mechanical engineering. In 1956, he accepted a position as a mechanical engineer with Los Alamos National Laboratory and worked for the labs until his retirement in 1991. Upon retiring, Ed spent much of his spare time rehabbing wild birds and educating the public on wildlife conservation.
He will be dearly missed by his beloved granddaughters, Karen, Andrea, Eva and Megan, daughter-in-laws Kate and Kelly, son-in-law Rick and his lifelong friends.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 15, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Los Alamos. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Santa Fe Raptor Center (P.O. Box 32021, Santa Fe, NM 87594) or Bethlehem Lutheran Church (2390 North Road, Los Alamos, NM 87544).
