Los Alamos Fencing Club members had big showings at Thursday’s Clark Street Brawl.
LAFC fencers took three of the top five places in the senior open epee event at the Clark Street Brawl, which was held in Santa Fe. The brawl was hosted by the New Mexico Fencing Foundation.
A pair of LAFC members, Tom Hill and Dominic Peterson both advanced to the final round of the senior men’s epee. In the gold medal bout, Hill survived a late comeback by Peterson, who was down 14-12 but tied the score late. Hill won the bout 15-14.
Also in that division, Jack Stafurik advanced to the quarterfinal round before losing. Stafurik finished in fifth place overall.
To get to the quarterfinals, Stafurik topped Farida Ismail in direct elimination competition. Ismail finished 13th overall.
LAFC fencers will head to the Falcon Open this weekend.
That competition will be held in Colorado Springs, Colo. The event attracts some of the top fencers in the Rocky Mountain region.
