Friday, we’ll be at Ashley Pond with one of Los Alamos’ favorite bands, the Jimmy Stadler Band from Taos. This marks the 15th straight year that these rockers have played our series.
They’ve been very busy this year playing an average of five dates a week including weddings and parties all over the country. They’ve also been working on their next album at the studio owned by their drummer Craig Neil.
Jimmy said they’ve written and recorded two-dozen new songs and will be playing some of them Friday.
He said they’ve also worked out new covers of songs by Los Lonely Boys, John Mayer and Stevie Ray Vaughan. They’ve also played the classic rock of the Beatles, Stones, Billy Joel, Counting Crows and many others but it’s Jimmy’s original compositions that make the band really cook. They’ve won many awards including the New Mexico Music Award for “CD of the Year” in 2006 for the album “Sagebrush Alley.” Read more about and listen to the band at www.jimmystadler.com. The show starts at 7 p.m.
After Friday with the Jimmy Stadler Band, we have only two more concerts in our series. Aug. 29, we’ll be at Del Norte Credit Union with the “Zydeco Sweetheart,” Rosie Ledet and the Zydeco Playboys. Sept. 5, we’ll be at Zia Credit Union with the local rock band, Julie Stewart and the Motor Kings. I’ll tell you more about them next week but for now, please check out www.rosieledet.com and www.motorkings.com.
Saturday, Gordons’ Concerts will produce a show at a private party for Los Alamos National Laboratory. The band will be the incredible 50’s cover band, The Continental Kids. They played Los Alamos June 13 on Central Avenue and put on one of the best shows of the year.
If you work at the lab, you should definitely go to this show and company picnic from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan Field.
If you don’t, make friends with a “Labbie” and ask them to take you!
Hope to see you at the concerts,
Russ Gordon is the organizer of the Los Alamos Concert Series.
