Exercise your right to vote

New Mexico’s primary elections are just two days away, and if you haven’t voted already make it a point to go to the polls and cast your ballot Tuesday. Despite the fact that this is being billed as a highly-charged political year when voters are expected to oust incumbents across the county, a pollster in New Mexico is betting the voter turnout in the Land of Enchantment will be low.

A recent Associated Press story put it this way: “Brian Sanderoff, a longtime political observer who runs an Albuquerque polling company, said Thursday the combined voter turnout in the Democratic and Republican primaries likely will be in the 30 percent range.”

It will be a shame if statewide turnout doesn’t beat that guesstimate. Locally, the crowded race for four seats on the county council combined with state government contests should drive voters to the polls.

The hardihood of any democracy is contingent upon the voice of the people being heard. Here are some interesting quips about voting:
