CHRISTIAN – Elizabeth “Betsy” Jane Christian, 64, of Rio Rancho, formerly of Los Alamos, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2008, during an extensive hospital stay. Betsy was born Jan. 26, 1944, in Akron, Ohio, the eldest daughter of John H. Frye and the late Jane Elizabeth Baughman Frye. Betsy grew up in Phoenix, Ariz., and attended the University of Arizona, where she met her husband Michael Christian. They were married on Aug. 8, 1964. Betsy and Mike spent 38 years in Los Alamos, where Betsy was involved in her daughters’ many activities. She coached softball and became an avid and accomplished quilter, creating a vast collection of beautiful and finely-crafted quilts and wall hangings for friends and family.Proficient in French and Latin, Betsy was a lifelong reader of both fiction and nonfiction, and her extensive knowledge of American and European history, poetry, mythology, politics, baseball, genealogy, children’s literature and numerous other topics amazed and enriched all those who knew her. She instilled a love for reading in her daughters and could always recommend the perfect book for any person of any age. Betsy had a keenly analytic mind, unusual recall and was known as a reliable source of information on a wide range of subjects.
