Gilmore – Eleanor Gilmore died peacefully Wednesday, July 16, 2008, in Los Alamos. She was the daughter of Floyd W. and Gladys Ward Hughes. She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Jim Gilmore; their two sons: Reid Gilmore and his wife Beth Weiner of Upton, Mass., and Alan Gilmore and her dear friend Cynthia Wooley of Albuquerque; sisters: Betty Deal of Ruidoso and Mildred Gamble and her husband Waldo of Alamogordo; sister-in-law Peaches Patsy Hughes of Longmont, Colo., as well as seven nieces and nephews.
A resident of Los Alamos for 63 years, Eleanor was a talented writer who will be remembered for her frequent contributions since 1989 to the Los Alamos Monitor, including most recently her “Cameos” columns. Since 1990, her stories have appeared regularly in the “Serape Anthology of Authors Over Fifty,” published by the New Mexico State University Night Jar Press.
Arrangements for cremation have been made with the Block-Salazar Mortuary. At her request no memorial service will occur. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to your favorite charity.
