Economic chief vacates post after 7 months

By Carol A. Clark

Los Alamos County’s top economic development leader, Scott Frederick, is no longer employed with the county. The county and Frederick reportedly came to a parting of the ways last Friday afternoon, but details are not being released by officials because it is a personnel matter.
County Administrator Tony Mortillaro alerted county councilors in an e-mail sent at 7:17 a.m. Monday. In the electronic communication, obtained by the Los Alamos Monitor, Mortillaro said, “Just wanted to let you know that Scott Frederick, Economic Vitality Manager is no longer an employee of this organization. The recruitment for this position will be commenced once the paperwork is finalized. No other information will be made available due to the personnel nature of this matter.”
The move comes as Frederick was just seven months in to the job, and had scored a first-round victory with last week’s county council vote to move forward in negotiations with North American Development Group in conjunction with the redevelopment of Trinity Site. Frederick was unavailable for immediate comment on the situation. There is no clear indication whether Frederick resigned or if he was terminated from his post.
County Attorney Randy Autio also declined to comment citing it as a personnel matter.
