Dorothy 'Chick' Mae (Higgins) Allen

Dorothy ‘Chick’ Mae (Higgins) Allen, 99, was escorted by angels to meet her Lord and Savior April 28, 2008. She will be reunited with her beloved husband of 77 years, Pickens “Pick” E. Allen, who preceded her in death in October 2005; her loving daughter, Dale (Allen) Sanford and her husband Charles; and many other family members waiting for her in heaven. A celebration of her life with us and her life now with God will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Merkel, Texas, with the Rev. Donny Harber officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel.

Chick was born Sept. 21, 1908, in Merkel, Texas, to Joseph Kincaid and Margaret Brown Higgins. She was one of eight children and the last to leave her beloved family and friends. She was very proud of the fact that she graduated from Merkel High School with a perfect attendance record.
