SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Democratic candidates will be listed first on the general election ballot in New Mexico, with Republicans next in order.

The secretary of state's office said Wednesday that the ballot position for the political parties was determined by a drawing.

Some candidates consider it an advantage to be listed first on the ballot.

The general election is Nov. 2.

However, absentee voting starts Oct. 5 and early in-person balloting begins on Oct. 16.

The ballot order applies to state and local offices up for election in November, including the races for governor, Congress, state House of Representatives seats and county commission.
