At 4 p.m. Friday, North Mesa Soccer Field will officially be re-signed and dedicated as “Flint Field” in honor of Jim Flint, former county administrator and boys varsity soccer coach. Members of the public are welcome to attend this brief ceremony, which will include unveiling of the new field sign, along with a memorial bench and tree. Members of the Flint family are traveling to Los Alamos for the ceremony.
The request to rename the field after Jim Flint came as the result of council action on a citizen petition filed at the May 11 council meeting. The request was filed under the County Code Sections 2-421 and 2-422.
Jim Flint passed away in September of last year. Under the code, the county council used their option to appoint a committee to hold a public hearing about the request to name a facility (in this case, North Mesa Soccer Field) after a deceased individual.
The council then took action and passed a motion to rename the field at their June 8 council meeting.
