It was a repeat win for both the top competitors at this 2010 Pajarito Punishment.
The Pajarito Punishment, a New Mexico Off-Road Series race, was held Saturday at Pajarito Mountain. The Punishment is considered one of the toughest races in the NMORS. In all, 151 riders finished Saturday’s race.
Albuquerque’s Damian Calvert won the Punishment Saturday with a time of 1 hour, 43 minutes, 18 seconds, topping former Los Alamos resident Michael McCalla in the men’s pro/semipro division by 59 seconds. Calvert, one of the top off-road bikers in the history of the state, took home his fourth straight title at the race.
Meanwhile, Albuquerque’s Nina Baum easily rode to her second straight title Saturday. Baum’s time of 2:02:36 was more than three minutes better than the only other professional competitor in the race, Krista Park of South Dakota.
Baum became the second consecutive woman to win two straight Pajarito Punishments. Jennifer Tribe-Wilson, whom Baum finished as the runner-up to in 2008, won both the 2007 and 2008 runnings.
Top local finishers included Orion Staples, who won the Sport Junior Men’s division and Wendy Staples who won the Beginner Master Women age 40-49 division.
Here are the results from Saturday’s Pajarito Punishment.
