-A A +A

The Los Alamos Middle School Hawk cross country teams picked up a clean sweep in their first outing of the 2010 season.
LAMS debuted at the Pecos Invitational Wednesday.
The two Hawk girls teams posted the low scores of the two-grade meet, held on a hilly course.
The Hawk seventh grade girls finished with just 23 points at the meet, while the Hawk eighth grade girls earned just 27 points. Meanwhile, the eighth grade boys had 33 points and the seventh grade boys finished with 54 points. All four teams finished well ahead of their closest competitors.
LAMS’ Isaiah Romero posted the fastest time of the day in the eighth grade boys race Wednesday, finishing in 12:57. Romero put the race away in the second mile and cruised to 20-second victory over the race’s runner-up.
The Hawks took seven of the top 14 slots in the eighth grade boys race. Forrest White, Cameron Staples and Skyler McCall all finished within one second of each other for LAMS.
Ruth Taylor was the top finisher in the eighth grade girls race. Taylor, from LAMS, crossed the finish line in 15:30, almost 15 seconds ahead of any other runner.
In that race, LAMS also took half of the top 14 slots to post a big victory.
In the seventh grade girls race, LAMS’ top runner, Madison Foley, took a wire-to-wire victory, pacing seven Hawk runners who finished in the top 10 individually.
The closest race of the day was the seventh grade boys race, with Española and Santa Fe Indian School both finishing in the mix, but the Hawks held off both schools to take the title.
John Rees took control of the race just after the first mile to win with a time of 14:19.
The Hawks are scheduled to race at Edgewood Wednesday.
