The Los Alamos junior varsity boys and girls cross country teams both won at Saturday’s Santa Fe Indian School Invitational and both by nearly identical scores.
Los Alamos’ girls finished with 22 total points at Saturday’s meet, run around the campus of SFIS, while the Los Alamos boys finished with 23 total points. Both teams finished ahead of the host Braves.
Megan Reader, who normally runs varsity for the Hilltoppers but had to leave early due to a band competition conflict, won Saturday’s JV race, finishing in 19:05. Her time would’ve tied her for fifth-place in the varsity race.
Reader missed the Albuquerque Academy Invitational a week earlier due to soreness in her Achilles heel, so Los Alamos coaches felt it important that she get Saturday’s meet in even if it wasn’t with the varsity.
Behind her, Annie Saegar was a strong third in the girls race, just edging out teammate Ashley Brown. Kim Boerigter and Rebecca Martineau also finished in the top 10 individually for Los Alamos.
In the JV boys race, BJ Fincke nipped Alexander Romero for the individual win. Both ran shoulder-to-shoulder for a good portion of Saturday’s race.
