The Los Alamos County Council voted 7-0 to move forward with a new strategy to get redevelopment of the Trinity Site kick-started yet again. The site is comprised of 15.26 acres of prime real estate located between Trinity Drive and Los Alamos Canyon.

Redevelopment of the Trinity Site has long been viewed as the potential impetus to spur further retail growth and redevelopment of other portions of the downtown area in Los Alamos.

The long and winding road leading to this next step included the consummation of a partnership between the county and Los Alamos Public Schools, which according to a county staff report, involved the two parties in completing "their agreements regarding the land conveyance and lease agreement for the Trinity Site. The State Board of Finance approved the transaction conditionally on Dec. 15, 2009. Final approval was received Feb. 10, 2010. The county and schools commenced their move from the Trinity Site and have nearly completed their relocation to the Airport Basin Site."
