The Los Alamos County Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a regular session in council chambers in the Community Building, 475 20th St. In addition to a proclamation declaring April 12, 2008, “Clean Up Los Alamos Day” and the introduction of ordinances regarding a regional transit gross receipts tax, the council will hear a general briefing from LANL Deputy Director Jan van Prooyen.The business agenda includes a discussion of how the county may engage with other entities regarding a shared vision of the community and its principal employers including the laboratory and the National Nuclear Security Administration.County purchasing agent Jose Carreño, procurement and risk administrator Jim Roth and assistant county attorney Dan Gonzales will brief council on proposed procurement code changes to the municipal code. The agenda documents state that the overall purpose of the revision is to make the procurement code more user-friendly, understandable and up-to-date. The revision includes specific sections of the code for design-build construction projects and adds several definitions to clarify the text.The council may also take action formally excusing Councilor Jim West from attendance at council meetings and related duties until he has recovered from his current health challenges.
