Council discusses CIP projects Tuesday

-A A +A

On March 1, the Los Alamos County Council will discuss the public input received over seven meetings held in the last two months regarding capital projects, and determine a path forward for selection and funding.

Council has considered over 14 hours of public comment on a variety of topics and needs related to Quality of Life, Parks & Recreation, Economic Development and Infrastructure.

The format for Tuesday’s meeting (6 p.m., council chambers) will focus upon creating a final list of projects. That list – which will be created in real time with a spreadsheet calculating spending as projects are selected – will be displayed on the large screen in council chambers for the public to view. Viewers streaming the meeting will also be able to see the screen updated as council makes changes.

The Council will consider new requests that were brought forward in the last two months, as well as the projects that were already on the list as of the Dec. 8, 2015 council meeting.

Project supporters are strongly encouraged to have at least one representative available at the March 1 meeting to answer any clarifying questions that council might have during discussions and prioritization of the list.

It should be noted that the council plans to consider another agenda item on Tuesday evening regarding the position of county clerk, and whether or not to authorize a statement about their intent to designate the position as full time. This item was added due to the fact that it is time sensitive for a determination to be made ahead of elected official filing day coming up on March 8. A decision to designate the Clerk’s position as a full-time salaried position could impact an individual’s decision to run for the office. Discussions on the Capital Projects list will follow the discussion of the Clerk item.
