Cooler temps, windy conditions and storms on the way

The National Weather Service has issued the following Special Weather Statement:

MUCH COOLER TEMPERATURES ON THE WAY... ... STRONG EAST CANYON WIND EVENT LIKELY TONIGHT...

A STRONG BACKDOOR COLD FRONT WILL ENTER THE FAR NORTHEAST PLAINS LATER THIS MORNING BEFORE PLUNGING SOUTH AND WEST ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF THE HIGHLANDS AND PLAINS THIS AFTERNOON. SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM COVERAGE WILL INCREASE ALONG THE FRONT WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR A FEW STRONG STORMS PRODUCING STRONG DOWNBURST WINDS AND HAIL.

THE FRONT IS EXPECTED TO PUSH THROUGH THE GAPS OF THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN BY THIS EVENING. STRONG EASTERLY WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 45 OR 50 MPH CAN BE EXPECTED OVER PORTIONS OF THE ALBUQUERQUE METRO AREA WITH THE STRONGEST WINDS BEGINNING MID EVENING AND CONTINUING INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS.

TEMPERATURES ON SUNDAY WILL BE 15 TO 25 DEGREES COOLER FROM THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN EAST TO THE TEXAS STATE LINE AND 5 TO 15 DEGREES COOLER ACROSS WESTERN PORTIONS OF NEW MEXICO. TEMPERATURES WILL BEGIN TO MODERATE BY MONDAY AND TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK.
