Diamond Drive Phase 4 2011
Canyon Closure at Diamond: On June 6, the contractor will be closing both legs of Canyon Road at Diamond Drive. Eastbound Canyon traffic can access Canyon Road from Trinity at 39th Street.
All driveways on Canyon will remain open except the High School Jock Lot (Griffith Gym). Westbound Canyon through traffic should detour to Trinity at either Oppenheimer or 39th Street. Access the First Methodist Church via University Drive.
Pedestrian access will remain on the west side of Diamond Drive with access to the east side of Diamond Drive at the overpasses, West Road, Trinity Drive, or Sandia. The Diamond Drive crosswalk at Canyon Road will be closed. Excluding weather delays or equipment problems, Canyon should be reopening no later than June 10.
Northbound from the Bridge – No left turns onto West or Trinity; use Sandia. No left or right onto Canyon Road; use University or Trinity.  The right turn slip lane onto eastbound Trinity is closed; motorists in the right lane must turn right onto eastbound Trinity at the signalized intersection. The left lane continues through the work zone.
Southbound from University Drive – Expect two southbound lanes south of Sandia.  The left lane is a through and a left turn lane at Trinity Drive.  The right lane is the through lane for traffic crossing the bridge, as well as right turns onto University, Trinity, and West Road.  Left turns onto West Road are okay, however, the dedicated left turn lane will no longer be present.
What’s Next? In the next few weeks, there will be significant traffic control changes at the Trinity intersection. Once the traffic control plan is finalized, advance information will be posted.
Transit: The southbound Park & Ride bus stop between Trinity and West Road is open. The northbound Park & Ride bus stop has moved from in front of the hospital further east on Trinity, in front of the pink house. The southbound Atomic City Transit bus stop on Diamond Drive at the Lemon Lot is open. The bus stop north of Canyon near the High School Jock Lot continues to be closed; use the bus stop near Orange. The first two Atomic City Transit stops on both sides of west Trinity will be closed; use the bus stop on 43rd St. Additional temporary stops will be established near the Fairway trailhead.
Canyon Road Curb and Gutter Work
During the Canyon intersection closure, pavement crews will be taking advantage of the reduced traffic on Canyon to perform curb and gutter replacement; expect shoulder work and some flagging with short delays.
NM502 Truck Traffic (Airport Runway Extension Project)
Expect slow moving and turning truck traffic on westbound NM502. As the trucks climb the hill, its speed slows to 20-25 mph and is further reduced when the trucks make the turn onto airport property. Do not tailgate, do not pass in the turn lanes, pay attention to the traffic ahead of you, and expect 5-10 minute delays.
Los Alamos Dept. of Public Utilities Projects  – Traffic Impacts
Electric Projects
Work to replace overhead power lines on San Ildelfonso at Camino Redondo will cause occasional single lane closures during the week.
Downtown, on Ponderosa Street, occasional lane closures will occur as underground electric lines are replaced.
Natural Gas Projects
A single lane closure on Los Pueblos Rd. at 730 Los Pueblos may resume next week as the gas line installation work across Bayo Canyon continues.
A single lane closure may occur on Esperanza Rd. near Quemazon Rd. as gas work continues in that area.
