Eastern Area 2 Concrete, Paving & Utility Project – Phase 1
Canyon Road between East Road (N.M. 502) and the Myrtle Green continues to be closed to through traffic. Residential access to this area will be maintained; however, residents who park on Canyon Road are asked to park off-street or on a nearby side street. Residents can expect flagging operations on Canyon Road during the day time, and two-way traffic at night.
RMCI continues to work on 15th Street, requiring the closure of 15th Street between Trinity and Deacon, as well as reducing traffic between Deacon and Central to two lanes of traffic.
The 15th Street detour will be Knecht Street; other alternatives motorists may want to consider are 20th Street or Oppenheimer. Flagging operations on 15th near Central and Deacon will continue as needed in order to allow equipment to access the work area. The work on 15th Street is expected to be complete on or before July 28 with paving tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, July 25.
4th Street between Central and Canyon continues to be closed to through traffic. Residential access will be maintained.
N.M. 4 Improvements Project
Motorists can expect a relatively open roadway this week with barrels or temporary tabs marking driving lanes. Permanent striping and roadway markings will be placed the week of July 30.
Central Avenue & 9th Street (Associated with Municipal Complex Construction)
In order to complete the final stages of utility water line work and installation of curb, gutter, drive pads, ramps and sidewalks associated with the new Municipal Complex, the contractor has closed westbound Central Avenue from 9th Street to the new construction site entrances near Knecht Street. Westbound traffic on Central will be detoured onto 9th Street - north to Iris, then west to 15th Street. The southbound lane of 9th Street will be intermittently closed between Iris and Central for curb, paving, utility adjustments and concrete work. Traffic delays should be minimal. Construction is expected to occur over the next two weeks.
NMDOT Chip Seal Project on N.M. 4 between White Rock and Sandoval County Line
Bicyclists riding in the vicinity of N.M. 4 and N.M. 501 are urged to use extra caution during chip seal work being done by the N.M. Department of Transportation. The chip seal project began July 12 and should be completed by the end of July, weather permitting. There may be delays between the hours of 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. A spokesman for NMDOT said bicycling through the work zone is “highly discouraged” due to the oily surface, loose gravel, and heavy truck traffic. For more information, contact NMDOT-District 5 Maintenance Supervisor David Martinez at (505) 476-4202 or Patricia Wolff, Public Information Officer at (505) 476-4245.
