Community Assessment Presentation on April 16

How is our community perceived by visitors, new residents, and people who are considering doing business here?  That is the question that will be the subject of a public presentation on Thursday, April 16th from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Los Alamos Research Park rooms 203 A/B.  Roger Brooks, a national expert in destination assessment, branding, and marketing has been leading a team performing an independent assessment of our community and he will present their observations, findings, and suggestions.  The work has been commissioned by the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce to increase understanding and serve as a basis for the Chamber’s community development work.

“One of our goal areas is focused on increasing the economic benefit to the community from visitors and tourists,” says Kevin Holsapple, Chamber of Commerce and LACDC Executive Director.  “This will benefit commerce in multiple ways, and in doing so, can also improve amenities and quality of life for all residents.”  Holsapple says that Brooks’ firm, Destination Development International (DDI) was chosen to do the work because of their deep experience in doing similar work with smaller communities throughout the country.  “The assessment process is kind of a ‘secret shopper’ approach in that they are doing their data gathering very independently and without the knowledge of people here," says Holsapple.  "We talked to a good number of communities where they have worked and we are told to expect an engaging, informative, and entertaining presentation based on solid assessment work.”

The session is free and the public is invited, although an RSVP is requested as a limited number of seats are available. The RSVP can be made online at www.rsvp-la.com or by calling 662-0001.
