Sponsor a family

The Alpha Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi adopts a family every year through the Los Alamos school system.  They solicit the school counselors to identify needy LA families and give them an Adopt a Family “application.”
Beta Sigma Phi then goes out in the community and asks other families and businesses to sponsor the families. The sponsors provide each member of the family with one gift (listed on the application) and a Smith’s giftcard (in the amount of $25 per family member) to buy food for a Christmas dinner.
This is the first year, since this program’s inception in the mid-80s, that they have not found enough sponsors to cover all 68 families.  There are still 10 smaller-sized families that need adopting.
The gifts are due Dec. 16 and can be dropped off at the LA Christian Church from 1 p.m.-
6 p.m.  For more information e-mail Kimberlee Knapp at kimberleeknapp@yahoo.com or call her at 505-629-8130.

Jr. ‘Toppers

Do you have a child between the ages of 4-13 years who is interested in basketball? The new Jr. ’Toppers program is a basketball development program held from 8-9 a.m. Saturdays.
These skills clinics introduce community youth to the high school programs by providing great fundamental skills instruction, core values and a fun experience. The clinics are held at Los Alamos High School and Mountain Elementary gyms and led by LAHS coaching staff and players from both the boys and girls teams.
Learn more about the Jr. ’Toppers program, including clinic locations for your child’s age group and how you can support this program financially as it moves forward, at the LAHS Athletics Web site, www.laschools.net.
