Items are currently being accepted for the Mexico Mission Auction, March 6. The auction will raise funds to build homes during spring break. To donate items call 662-2971. The auction will be March 6 at the United Church. A silent auction will be from 2-3 p.m., with a live auction at 3 p.m. Donations can be made through Feb. 27. The United Church is located at 2525 Canyon Road.
D’Souza to speak
at United Church
Dinesh D’Souza, author of “What’s So Great About Christianity” will be in Los Alamos March 19 and 20 at the United Church of Los Alamos. A forum will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 19 and includes lunch. registration is $30. D’Souza will also speak after the 9:30 service on March 20, which is free and open to the public. Help Barranca students
Students at Barranca Elementary are collecting funds to help fix their basketball court and build a new court. Monetary donations may be made to help fund the project, or bricks may be purchased for $100. Those who purchase bricks may have their names engraved on them. Do you like to sing? Join the Choral Society, a non-auditioned chorus for all ages in Los Alamos. For their spring concert, they will be sing love songs, some Brahms, favorites from the Beatles and some spirituals. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. at the United Church, 2525 Canyon Road. The concerts will be at 3 p.m. May 22 in Los Alamos and at 1 p.m. May 30 in the town of Cochiti Lake. Their first rehearsal is Feb. 8. Call Chuck, 662-9127, or Wendy, 231-0162, for details.
School supplies needed
The Los Alamos High School National Honor Society is holding a “Supplies for Haiti” drive. The school supply drive will be from Feb. 1-28. There will be boxes at the high school, as well as in Mesa Public Library, the YMCA, Starbucks and Smiths.
Partner being sought
Habitat for Humanity of the Española Valley and Los Alamos, Inc., is currently seeking the next new Habitat House partner. The following general requirements must be met in order to qualify:
• Must not currently own a home
• Must be low- to middle-income
• Must be a resident of Española or Los Alamos for at least one year
• Must be willing to “partner” with Habitat for Humanity
• Must be able to repay a zero percent mortgage for the expense of the house construction.
