Help Barranca students
Students at Barranca Elementary are collecting funds to help fix their basketball court and build a new court. Monetary donations may be made to help fund the project, or bricks may be purchased for $100. Those who purchase bricks may have their names engraved on them. The HeArts and Gifts Fair for Valentine’s Day has been scheduled from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Hall. Tables are available for $25. For information call Nancy at 662-1635.
Do you like to sing? Join the Choral Society, a non-auditioned chorus for all ages in Los Alamos. For their spring concert, they will be sing love songs, some Brahms, favorites from the Beatles and some spirituals. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. at the United Church, 2525 Canyon Road. The concerts will be at 3 p.m. May 22 in Los Alamos and at 1 p.m. May 30 in the town of Cochiti Lake. Their first rehearsal is Feb. 8. Call Chuck, 662-9127, or Wendy, 231-0162, for details.
School supplies needed
The Los Alamos High School National Honor Society is holding a “Supplies for Haiti” drive. The school supply drive will be from Feb. 1-28. There will be boxes at the high school, as well as in Mesa Public Library, the YMCA, Starbucks and Smith’s.
Habitat partner sought
Habitat for Humanity of the Española Valley and Los Alamos, Inc., is currently seeking the next new Habitat House partner. The following general requirements must be met in order to qualify:
• Must not currently own a home
• Must be low- to middle-income
• Must be a resident of Española or Los Alamos for at least one year
• Must be willing to “partner” with Habitat for Humanity
• Must be able to repay a zero percent mortgage for the expense of the house construction.

Serenade your valentine
Lads of Enchantment quartets will deliver singing valentines to the home or workplace in Los Alamos on Feb. 13-14. Their quartets will serenade your sweetheart with romantic songs and present her/him with a rose. To reserve a singing Valentines delivery, call Chuck at 662-9127.
Bracelets raise awareness
The Los Alamos High School Student Council is selling different-colored bracelets to raise awareness for cancer. Each color represents different types of cancer. The bracelets will be on sale at LAHS in the Auxiliary Gym lobby everyday at lunch for $2 each. The proceeds will benefit cancer research. While they are hoping to raise some money, their primary focus is to make students aware of these types of cancers and their effects. The colors include; blue, teal or white, purple and pink, representing prostate, cervical, testicular and breast cancer.
The Española YMCA is in need of computers. The students use them to do their homework and research. Those who have a computer, hard drive or monitor to donate should call Ben Sandoval at 747-6569 or send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Be a snow angel
The senior centers would like to identify people in Los Alamos and White Rock who would be willing to provide snow removal for seniors, and in so doing, be a snow angel. The Betty Ehart Senior Center often gets calls from elders who need this service. Those willing to help should call the Betty Ehart Senior Center at 662-8920, or the White Rock Senior Center at 662-8200 and give them your contact info.
